Who You Are

You’re someone who is, or will be, leading and managing people. You’re eager to learn and want to become more effective but you’re busy and don’t have time to spend all day in a lecture to get a couple nuggets of wisdom.

Your time is valuable and you want proven and effective training. It must be engaging, interactive, and include people just like you. Our management training program is applicable to people from every industry and at all levels. Depending on your experience, you will be assigned to appropriate breakout groups.

Also, did you know that self-paced courses have completion rates as low as 3%? That’s why our programs are live and cohort based – our completion rate is 96%!

With Bellrock Management Foundations, you’ll be joining a community of like-minded people who are curious, who love to learn, and who believe that, as the leaders of today, it’s their duty to become the best managers ever in service of their teams.

What To Expect

Our Management Foundations program includes:

A lot of engagement and collaboration. Our training is not a sit-back-and-watch, passive experience. Why? When you learn something passively, there’s a 72% chance you’ll forget it. When you learn something actively (use it, answer questions about it, discuss it with others, etc.) there’s a 69% chance you’ll remember it.

Eight, 3-hour workshops. These are a combination of live lecture, videos, whole group participation, and small breakouts where we assign people to small working groups to collaborate. There are different groups for different activities so you get to know your classmates. We also use polls and quizzes and test your knowledge in fun ways.

Eight, 1-hour one-on-one coaching sessions. You get focused attention to develop your management practice, advance in your career, and solve your toughest problems. These sessions are customized just for you.

The feedback is consistent among our hundreds of graduates: The combination of workshops and coaching makes the learning stick and is unique to Bellrock.

“Bellrock’s Management Foundations was both informative and easy to apply. The Recruiting module was the foundational piece that we used in creating a recruiting and interviewing system at Romex Canada. As a result of this program we hired two solid salespeople that are a great fit for our company and have hit the ground running.”

Our Training Modules

Our Management Foundations program is designed to set leaders and managers up for success. It covers the following eight modules, each of which includes a 3-hour workshop and a 1-hour coaching session:

Introduction to Management

This module introduces participants to the art and science of management and how it differs from leadership. It identifies the key skills that managers need to be successful, particularly around managing strategy, systems, and people.

Concepts covered: Management vs. leadership, model for managing, change matrix, power models, foundational systems, and strategic planning.

Recruiting Top Talent (The Manager’s Role)

A bad hire can cost a company from between 3-10x that employee’s salary in lost time, training, and opportunity cost. This module teaches participants how to effectively recruit and onboard staff so that they are productive in the shortest amount of time.

Concepts covered: Manager vs. HR duties in hiring, hiring for strengths, the ideal team player, interview best practices, and onboarding.

Managing Employee Performance

Participants dive deeper into how to onboard new hires so they become productive quickly and stay motivated. Managing and measuring performance is taught with specific methodology. In addition, progressive discipline and offboarding are covered.

Concepts covered: Effectiveness onboarding, performance evaluation systems, progressive discipline, and offboarding.

Setting Expectations and Delegation

This module teaches participants communication best practices for them to work through their staff to get things done. This includes not just setting expectations, but also the feedback and follow-through needed to achieve the desired results.

Concepts covered: Expectation setting best practices, stretch goals, SMART goals, verbal upfront contracts, CPQQRT Q3, and 1:1 meetings.

Finance for Non-Finance Managers

This module teaches participants how to read and use financial statements to make informed decisions. We explain the language of finance, and create simple statements to demonstrate how to use the concepts.

Concepts covered: Balance sheet, income statement, cash flow forecast, budgets, and how to analyze company performance.

Meeting Rhythms

Participants will understand why meetings are simultaneously the most vivified management tool and the most efficient form of communication when done well. We teach how to facilitate constructive participation and get the most from any meeting.

Concepts Covered: Strategic vs. tactical meetings, huddles, departmental meetings, setting agendas, the role of leader and chair, and ground rules.

Motivation

In about 85% of companies, employees’ morale sharply declines after their first six months – and continues to deteriorate for years afterwards. This module teaches how to prevent that decline and keep employees engaged and motivated.

Concepts covered: Model for motivation, self-motivation, managing strengths and weaknesses, giving praise, ARCTIC, and handling different responses to expectations.

Developing People

This module teaches participants how to develop staff in a way that lets them define a career that fits the needs of both the company and the employee. Companies can increase retention and focus their training budgets on areas that will have the greatest impact.

Concepts covered: Coaching and mentoring, effective relationships, educational development, career pathing, improving engagement, succession planning, and developing managers into leaders.

Public Cohorts

We offer three public cohorts of Management Foundations each year. While we’re based in Canada, our training is accessible globally. Late registration is often available for cohorts that are currently running and pre-registration is available for future cohorts. Reserve your spot today!

Leadership Training

Our Leadership Foundations training program takes leaders and managers to the next level with content for those looking to deepen their leadership and managerial expertise. It can be taken immediately following Management Foundations as part of a bundle.

Private Training

For organizations who wish to participate in our public programs but would like additional support for their teams, we can provide facilitated debriefs to help implement the learning from each module in addition to the 1:1s that are already included. We also offer private training on a case-by-case basis for larger organizations that want to run sessions exclusively and/or would like to customize the curriculum.

FAQs

There are a lot of leadership development and management training programs out there. Click on the following FAQs to learn more about what makes our training unique and to answer your specific questions.

What level of manager gets the most out of this training?

Management is like an artichoke. So many layers and some are really spiky! Our training programs are designed to meet the learner where they are at in terms of their leadership and management experience.

What makes this training unique?

We go beyond just theory and the classroom by helping participants implement what they learn and build capacity in their organization. During our 1:1 coaching sessions, individuals learn how to overcome their specific management challenges so that the results stick.

Is it online or in person?

All of our public classes have been painstakingly designed to deliver the best experience online. Further details are released during intake.

How much time does it take?

Workshops are three hours per month. One-on-one coaching is an additional hour each month. Ideally, you will also spend time reviewing and using the content in your daily management practice to reap the most value from those four hours.

How Much Does It Cost?

$3,995 CAD + GST per participant.

What Is Your Refund Policy?

We are confident that our training will make a meaningful impact in your professional role and we would love the opportunity to address any concerns about the value of it. If a participant chooses to withdraw from training and they do so before the second module begins, we offer a full refund. We don’t charge for time. We charge for results.

Is Financial Assistance Possible?

Yes! Many businesses are eligible for financial assistance via grant programs. For participants in Canada, the Canada Job Grant is available in several provinces. For example, under the B.C. Employer Training Grant program (BC ETG) guidelines, eligible employers may receive up to 80% of eligible training costs, up to a maximum of $10,000 per participant per fiscal year. Please contact us for more details.

Can I get continuing education (CE) credits?

Our program modules often qualify for continuing education (CE) credits but it depends on your professional association. We can provide proof of training and other information as needed.

Do you offer leadership training?

Yes! Please see our Leadership Foundations training program.

You can bundle Management Foundations and Leadership Foundations to make it a full year of remarkable classroom instruction and 1:1s. Registering for both as a bundle makes it easier if you are applying for grant funding or if you want to guarantee your space in the Leadership Foundations program.

What if I miss a class?

The sessions are not recorded. However, if you miss one you can join another time. In fact, as a graduate you can come back to any class at no cost to you. We love welcoming returning students who are refreshing their knowledge.

Are classes recorded for later viewing?
